Wntbeta-catenin

β-catenin is a dual function protein, regulating the coordination of cell–cell adhesion and gene transcription.The CTNNB1 gene in humans encodes the CTNNB1 protein. The cadherin protein complex subunit -catenin functions as an intracellular signal transducer in the Wnt signaling pathway.It is a homolog of -catenin and a member of the catenin protein family. Hepatocellular carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, lung cancer, malignant breast tumors, ovarian, and endometrial cancer are just a few of the cancers that have been linked to mutations and overexpression of -catenin. The beta-catenin destruction complex, and in particular the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) protein, which is encoded by the tumor-suppressing APC gene, regulates and annihilates -catenin. As a result, genetic APC gene mutation is strongly associated with cancers, particularly colorectal cancer brought on by familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP).
