Dynamin

Dynamin

Dynamins are large superfamily GTPase proteins that are involved in various cellular processes including budding of transport vesicles, division of organelles, cytokinesis, and pathogen resistance. Eukaryotic cells use dynamins to scissor (cleave the vesicle from the parent membrane) developing vesicles from parent membranes. Dynamins sever and release coated vesicles by directly interacting with the lipid bilayer at the necks of clathrin-coated pits. While dynamin-related proteins (DRPs) lack one or more of these domains or have additional domains, dynamins have five domains, including the GTPase domain, middle domain, PH domain, GTPase effector domain (GED), and proline rich domain (PRD).Several different cellular processes, such as cytokinesis and membrane fission in plant cells (Arabidopsis thalianaDRP proteins), pathogen resistance, vacuolar fission in yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae Vps1), and interferon-induced antiviral protection (fish Mx proteins) are all regulated by dynamins and DRPs.
