EBV

EBV

A member of the herpes virus family is the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also referred to as human herpesvirus 4. It is one of the most prevalent viruses in people. The EBV virus can be found everywhere. The majority of people contract EBV at some point in their lives. EBV is most frequently transmitted through bodily fluids, particularly saliva. In children, primary EBV infection is frequently asymptomatic; however, in adolescents and adults, 30%–50% of cases clinically manifest as infectious mononucleosis (IM). Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), infectious mononucleosis (IM), Burkitt lymphoma (BL), Hodgkin's disease, and other illnesses are also brought on by EBV. EBV infection frequently occurs in children. In most cases, EBV infections in children do not result in symptoms, or if they do, they are similar to those of other mild, transient childhood illnesses.
