Ubiquitin

Ubiquitin

Ubiquitination is the covalent additions of ubiquitin molecules to lysine residues of a protein. Following ubiquitination, most proteins are directed to the 26S proteosome for degradation. The ubiquitination system involves a variety of proteins, but the specificity of the system depends on the specific E3 ubiquitin ligase enzyme employed, which attaches a ubiquitin molecule to the correct substrate.
