It has been demonstrated that FLAP, or arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase-activating protein, is essential for the production of cellular leukotrienes (LTs) in cells by facilitating the transfer of the substrate arachidonic acid (AA) to 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO). FLAP enables 5-LOX protein to produce oxidized lipid products (primarily eicosanoids) that are crucial for cell growth, differentiation, and death, particularly apoptosis, by transferring arachidonic acid to this enzyme.
