Ribosomal S6 Kinase (RSK) is a family of serine/threonine protein kinases involved in the regulation of cell viability.In response to mitogens, RSK is phosphorylated by the activation of one or more protein kinase cascades. The 70 kDa and 90 kDa S6 kinase families, which can be distinguished by size, are the two distinct mitogen-activated S6 kinase families that phosphorylate S6 in vivo. The activation of both S6 kinases occurs through serine/threonine phosphorylation.
The Ras/Raf/MEK/ERK signaling pathway's downstream effectors are members of the highly conserved Ser/Thr kinase family known as p90 ribosomal s6 kinase (1-4). They control a variety of cellular functions, including cell growth, motility, survival, and proliferation. AGC family member and key player in the mTOR signaling cascade is the p70 ribosomal protein S6 kinase.It is a multifunctional Ser/Thr kinase. Numerous cellular processes, including protein synthesis, mRNA processing, glucose homeostasis, cell growth, and apoptosis are closely correlated with the p70 ribosomal protein S6 kinase.
