SRPK

SRPK

SRPKs is a critical enzyme family that regulates splicing activity in the cell. The first serine-arginine (SR) protein kinase discovered is called SRPK1. It was isolated from mitotic cells and is known to phosphorylate SR proteins and encourage their release from nuclear speckles during the G2/M phase of the cell cycle. The SRPK family, which also contains the two homologous SRPK2 and SRPK3 proteins, is modelled after SRPK1. SRPKs are primarily found in the cytoplasm of mammalian cells and are distinguished by a bipartite catalytic domain separated by a distinctive spacer sequence.

The G2/M phase of the cell cycle, osmotic stress, activation of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) signal transduction pathway, and many other situations can cause SRPKs to translocate into the nucleus of cells.
