Epigenetics

Epigenetics

Epigenetics refer to stable and heritable alterations in gene expression and cellular function without changes to the original DNA sequence. The well-recognized epigenetic mechanisms comprise DNA methylation, histone modification, and noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs). Each of which alters how genes are expressed without altering the underlying DNA sequence. Gene expression can be controlled through the action of repressor proteins that attach to silencer regions of the DNA.
