When a person with HSV (Herpes simplex virus) is producing and shedding the virus, it can spread. Through contact with saliva, such as when sharing drinks, herpes simplex can spread. Watery blisters on the skin or mucous membranes of the mouth, lips, or genitals are signs of herpes simplex virus infection. Herpetic disease's characteristic ascab helps lesions heal. HSV-1 and -2 remain in the body as neurotropic and neuroinvasive viruses by becoming latent and hiding from the immune system in the cell bodies of neurons. Some infected people occasionally experience episodes of viral reactivation or outbreaks after the initial or primary infection.
