Product Description
Levomefolate sodium is a novel and potent folate
Levomefolate sodium, also known as L-5-MTHF sodium, is an orally active, blood-brain barrier-penetrating, and active form of folic acid. It is a dietary supplement that can be used to study megaloblastic anemia and neurological disorders. Levomefolate sodium is the primary biologically active form of folate used at the cellular level for DNA reproduction, the cysteine cycle, and the regulation of homocysteine. It has a molecular formula of C20H23N7Na2O6 and a molecular weight of 503.42.
Biological Activity I Assay Protocols (From Reference)
Targets
Levomefolate sodium targets folate-dependent metabolic pathways. It is the predominant folate transport form in blood under physiological conditions. As the active form of folic acid, it serves as a cofactor for enzymes involved in one-carbon metabolism, including methionine synthase, which converts homocysteine to methionine, and enzymes involved in DNA synthesis and repair.
ln Vitro
In vitro, Levomefolate sodium is the biologically active form of folate. It is involved in the synthesis of DNA, the cysteine cycle, and the regulation of homocysteine. It is used as a folate supplement in cell culture media to support cell growth and proliferation.
ln Vivo
In vivo, Levomefolate sodium is an orally active and blood-brain barrier-penetrating form of folate. It has been studied as an adjunctive treatment for individuals with major depressive disorder who exhibit partial or no response to traditional antidepressants such as SSRIs or SNRIs. It can be used as a food supplement for folic acid and in the research of neural tube defect diseases.
Enzyme Assay
Levomefolate sodium is evaluated in cell-free assays as a reference standard for folate analysis. Its purity and identity can be confirmed using HPLC and NMR analysis. The compound is used in biochemical assays to study the activity of folate-dependent enzymes, such as methionine synthase and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase.
Cell Assay
Levomefolate sodium is assessed in cell-based assays using various cell lines. Cells are cultured in media containing Levomefolate sodium, and its effects on cell proliferation, DNA synthesis, and homocysteine levels are measured. It is used to study the role of folate in cellular metabolism and gene expression.
Animal Protocol
Levomefolate sodium is administered orally in animal models and in clinical studies. It is used as a dietary supplement to study the effects of folate on various physiological processes, including neural tube development, cardiovascular health, and cognitive function.
ADME/Pharmacokinetics
Levomefolate sodium is orally active and can cross the blood-brain barrier. It has a molecular weight of 503.42 and a molecular formula of C20H23N7Na2O6. Its CAS number is 1423663-76-6. The compound is soluble in water and should be stored under recommended conditions.
Toxicity/Toxicokinetics
No detailed toxicity data is available for Levomefolate sodium. It is a form of folate and is generally considered safe as a dietary supplement. The compound is for research use only and is not intended for human therapeutic use.
Additional Infomation
Levomefolate sodium is also known as L-5-MTHF sodium and (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate sodium. It is a dietary supplement and a research tool for studying folate metabolism and related disorders. The compound is not approved for clinical use.
These protocols are for reference only. InvivoChem does not independently validate these methods.

Preparing Stock Solutions 1 mg 5 mg 10 mg
1 mM 1.9864 mL 9.9321 mL 19.8641 mL
5 mM 0.3973 mL 1.9864 mL 3.9728 mL
