Product Description
Viroxime is a potent antiviral agent.
Viroxime (CAS#: 63198-97-0), also known as Enviroxime, is an unseparated synthetic mixture of Zinviroxime and Enviroxime with antiviral activity. It is a substituted benzimidazole derivative active against rhinovirus and enterovirus. Viroxime has antiviral activity and may be used to study coxsackievirus infection in infants. It is a kinase inhibitor that targets viral proteins involved in the formation of the viral RNA replication complex.
Biological Activity I Assay Protocols (From Reference)
Targets
Viroxime targets viral proteins 3A and 3AB, which are involved in the formation of the viral RNA replication complex, thereby inhibiting viral replication. As an antiviral agent, it inhibits viral replication. The compound is active against various RNA viruses, particularly poliovirus and rhinovirus. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting viral replication by targeting specific viral proteins. Viroxime is an antiviral agent.
ln Vitro
In vitro, Viroxime shows antiviral activity against rhinovirus, enterovirus, and coxsackievirus. Enviroxime exhibits antiviral effects against EV71 with an EC₅₀ of 0.15 μM. The compound is a kinase inhibitor that targets viral proteins 3A and 3AB. Detailed in vitro data are available in the primary literature. Viroxime is a valuable tool for antiviral research.
ln Vivo
In vivo, Viroxime has antiviral activity and may be used to study coxsackievirus infection in infants. The compound has been evaluated in preclinical and clinical studies for antiviral efficacy. Further in vivo studies are needed to fully characterize its efficacy and safety profile. Viroxime is a research compound for antiviral applications.
Enzyme Assay
In vitro antiviral assays for Viroxime typically use virus-infected cell cultures (e.g., rhinovirus, enterovirus, or coxsackievirus). Cells are cultured in appropriate medium and infected with virus. The compound is dissolved in DMSO and diluted in culture medium. Infected cells are treated with Viroxime at various concentrations (0.001-100 μM) for 24-72 hours. Viral replication is assessed by plaque reduction assay, viral RNA quantification by PCR, or cytopathic effect reduction. EC₅₀ and IC₅₀ values are calculated from dose-response curves. Controls include vehicle and reference antivirals.
Cell Assay
For cell-based assays, susceptible cell lines (e.g., HeLa, Vero) are cultured in appropriate medium. Cells are seeded in multi-well plates and infected with virus. Cells are treated with Viroxime at various concentrations for 24-72 hours. Viral replication is assessed by plaque reduction assay, viral RNA quantification, or cytopathic effect reduction. Cell viability is assessed by MTT or CellTiter-Glo. All treatments include vehicle controls and are performed in triplicate.
Animal Protocol
In vivo, Viroxime may be administered to animals for antiviral efficacy studies. The compound is formulated in a suitable vehicle. For viral infection models, animals are infected and treated with Viroxime at various regimens. Endpoints include viral load reduction, survival, and tissue histology. Blood samples are collected for pharmacokinetic analysis. All procedures follow institutional guidelines.
ADME/Pharmacokinetics
Viroxime (Enviroxime, MW 358.42, C₁₇H₁₈N₄O₃S) is an antiviral agent. It is a substituted benzimidazole derivative. Detailed pharmacokinetic parameters are not extensively reported in publicly available sources. The compound is typically stored at room temperature. It is for research purposes. The compound is an unseparated synthetic mixture.
Toxicity/Toxicokinetics
Toxicology data for Viroxime are limited in publicly available sources. As an antiviral agent, potential effects on host cell functions should be considered. The compound is for research use only and not intended for human therapeutic applications. Standard safety pharmacology and toxicology studies would be required for therapeutic development. The compound should be handled with standard laboratory safety precautions.
