FBPase

FBPase

FBPase is a rate-limiting enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of fructose 1,6-bisphosphate to fructose 6-phosphate and inorganic phosphate. It also regulates gluconeogenesis and glyconeogenesis, as well as glucose homeostasis and energy metabolism more broadly. Mammals have two distinct genes, FBP1 and FBP2, that, respectively, code for the liver and muscle isoforms of FBPase.

Poorer prognoses for cancer patients were frequently significantly correlated with lower FBPase expression, advanced tumour stage, and highly malignant phenotype. All of these findings suggested that FBPase might be a brand-new biomarker and potential cancer treatment target.
