DAPK

DAPK

The founding member of a newly identified family of Ser/Thr kinases, DAPK (Death-Associated Protein Kinase), shares functions with other members of the family that are related to cell death as well as significant homology in their catalytic domains. An impressive body of literature has been written about the function, regulation, and relationship to disease of the kinase family as a result of the discovery that DAPk is a tumor suppressor gene, whose expression is lost in a variety of tumor types. The DAPk family has been suggested to serve purposes aside from cell death and has been connected to a number of signaling pathways related to cell death.
