CGRP Receptor

CGRP Receptor

Calcitonin-receptor-like receptor (CRLR), a type II (family B) G-protein-coupled receptor, and receptor-activity-modifying protein 1 (RAMP1), a single-membrane-pass protein, combine to form the CGRP receptor. Both CGRP binding and CLR cell-surface expression require RAMP1. A GPCR from family B is the CLR.

The trigeminal system produces large amounts of the neuropeptide CGRP, which is also widely expressed in the peripheral and central nervous systems. Vasodilation, the perception of painful stimuli, and inflammation are just a few of the roles that CGRP plays. Through interactions with its receptors, CGRP brings about biological effects. The CGRP-A and CGRP-B subtypes of CGRP receptors exist.
