BMX Kinase

BMX Kinase

Bmx is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase belonging to the Tec kinase family. The protein has a SH2 domain that binds to tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins and participates in signal transduction as well as a PH-like domain that mediates membrane targeting by binding to phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-triphosphate (PIP3). The protein controls the differentiation and tumorigenicity of several different types of cancer cells and is involved in a number of signal transduction pathways, including the Stat pathway. Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase's downstream effector, Bmx, has been demonstrated to have an N-terminal pleckstrin homology domain. The development of breast cancer cells has been linked to P21-activated kinase 1 (Pak1), another well-known phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase effector.
